Weight Loss, An Integrative Approach
Since 2008, the Joseph Feuerstein, MD and Kathleen Sanders, Nurse Practitioner have been providing medical weight loss treatment in Fairfield County. Together they have been able to provide patients with individual, medically managed weight loss strategies that are evidence based, safe and effective. Obesity is a complex health issue that requires a wide variety of treatment options designed to meet your weight loss and lifestyle needs. Dr. Feuerstein and Nurse Practitioner Kathleen are advocates for preventative health. Both clinicians believe that obesity is best treated by using lifestyle change along with behavioral, education, and nutrition education in conjunction with medications when needed.
Our service is based on a proven weight-loss plan made up of four components: a personalized diet, referral to a medical fitness program, behavioral strategies and medical expertise.
Dr. Feuerstein's philosophy…
"Over two thousand years ago Hippocrates wisely stated that food is medicine. My program centers around this philosophy and utilizes clinically proven medical diets to help combat chronic medical problems like obesity, hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol, rheumatoid arthritis and many other auto-immune diseases"
Dr. Feuerstein recently completed a 42 person clinical trial using a high soluble fiber, reduced saturated fat and reduced starch dietary protocol to reduce cholesterol, elevated fasting sugar and excess weight. The striking results indicate an average Total Cholesterol drop of 50 points, LDL drop of 40 points, fasting sugar drop of 12 pints and a weight loss of between 5 and 20 lbs over 12 weeks. The manuscript is currently being prepared for publication in the literature.
